I would like my new InDesign documents to default to inches instead of picas. Anybody know how to do this?

You can change the units in the New Document box, but I would bet any money you can do it in the Default Measurements panel or whatever in the Preferences. I’m positive I’ve seen something like that in there.

Preferences > Units & Increments > Ruler Units, then set picas to inches. I did that once and it stayed for me.

Gotta do that every time.

Damn. Maybe check with @AdobeCare on Twitter. They’re pretty helpful.

For it to stick I believe you have to open InDesign without opening a project, set it to inches, click okay, and then close and relaunch InDesign.
It is annoyingly hard to make it default, unfortunately not at my computer to verify the steps, but I have had to switch it on two computers recently and believe this was the trick for getting it to default to inches

Do it without a new document open
If that doesn't work trash your preferences and do the above

Not at my computer, but I believe you're right.

I seem to recall you set all the preferences how you like them- without a document open. Then close Indesign and how you had it set up becomes the new default for new documents

That was the key. I thought of it about the same time you posted that reply, but only tried it today.
